Napier police are hunting for a heavily tattooed man who allegedly threatened a woman with a gun.

The incident happened in a Hastings Street flat at around 7pm Saturday.

The Armed Offenders Squad cordoned off the area for several hours.

Police say the man they are looking for is Shannon Quinton Watene. He has the word "notorious" tattooed across his cheeks and the bridge of his nose, and three bulldogs across his forehead.

Police believe he is still in the area and say he should not be approached as he is considered armed and dangerous.
