Police search burnt out car for suspected body

Police are investigating a burnt out vehicle near Kaikoura which they believe may contain a body.

The Blenheim criminal investigation branch, along with forensic and fire investigators have begun a scene examination of a "badly burned vehicle" which was discovered earlier today.

Police said they believe there is a body inside, but this is yet to be confirmed.

An area on Kiwa Road, north of the coastal town, has been cordoned off.

Police are asking anyone who has been in the area, or who has any relevant information, to contact them.
