Police are still looking for a woman who may have seen a fatal crash near Pahiatua in northern Wairarapa just before Christmas.

A 67-year-old Wellington woman was killed when the car she was travelling in rolled on State Highway 2, about 60km east of Palmerston North, at 7.30pm on December 23.

She was travelling to Hawke's Bay with family members for a Christmas reunion.

Police have now released an identikit picture of a woman seen in a dark blue four-door sedan seen parked on the side of the road shortly before the crash.

The woman was seen doing a U-turn and driving off, heading north on State Highway 2 towards Pahiatua, before police arrived.

She was described as Caucasian and aged 30 to 40-years-old.

It was possible there were two other people in the car with her, in the front passenger seat and backseat, police say.

Police hoped the woman would be able to assist with their investigation into the crash.

Anyone who recognised the woman was asked to contact police.
