Christchurch police are investigating an attack by boy racers on a woman security guard.
The aviation security guard was patrolling at the back of Christchurch Airport on Wednesday night when about 150 boy racers confronted her. They blocked her in with their cars and hurled bottles at her, breaking three of the car windows.
The security guard was able to call for help and eventually got away.
Mark Everitt from Aviation Security Services says the woman was intimidated when they blocked her in. He says she was completely covered in glass and it was through her hair and uniform.
Police and Christchurch City Council say they hope intimidatory behaviour by boy racers will be wiped out when new laws come into effect in December.
The mayor of Christchurch believes the actions of boy racers who attacked a security guard are similar to those of gang members. Bob Parker says their actions are despicable.
But Parker denies the attack would be in retaliation to this week's new boy racer laws.
