Police name pedestrian crossing victim

Published: 7:52AM Tuesday May 01, 2012 Source: ONE News

Police have named the 14-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a car in Christchurch last night.

Joshua Lewis Anderson, of St Albans, was struck by a vehicle as he crossed a pedestrian crossing with a friend at the intersection of Dyres Road with Ferry Road in Woolston around 6.30pm.

The vehicle had just exited the roundabout on Dyres Road.

Detective Sergeant Richard Quested said the Serious Crash Unit was investigating the crash but it was too early to determine whether any charges would be laid.

"This is a tragedy for the teenager's family, and victim support services have been arranged for his family as well as for the driver of the car," said Detective Sergeant Richard Quested.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the incident to contact Christchurch police.
