The case of two young men accused of pointing a laser at a police helicopter will go to trial.
Michael Josh O'Hare-Knight, 20, and James John Spiers, 18, are charged with dangerous activity involving aircraft under the Civil Aviation Act.
The charges relate to an incident in May last year, when police say the two men pointed a laser at the police Eagle helicopter from Asquith Avenue, Mt Albert, in Auckland.
Both entered a not guilty plea. Appearing in the Auckland District Court today, the matter was set down for a callover next month where the details of a trial would be set down.
Lawyers for the men both asked for changes to their bail conditions, including changes of address and the removal of a clause saying the men could not drink alcohol.
This was approved for Spiers, but police opposed the clause for O'Hare-Knight because he was allegedly drinking at the time of the incident.
Spiers wanted to be able to drink because he was completing a dive masters course, which had a strong social aspect, his lawyer Scott Leith said.
A non-association clause on both men remained in place.
