A Christchurch man has been arrested after police chanced upon a morphine lab and cannabis plants growing at a property.
Four members of the armed offenders squad were at a Burnside address yesterday assisting customs in relation to a firearms import warrant.
The cannabis and clandestine lab materials were discovered on the premises.
A 54-year-old man is now facing charging of cultivating cannabis and possession of equipment and chemicals intended for the manufature of morphine.
Police secured the property last night and a clan lab team has been working there today.
Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
The man will appear in court on Thursday. Further charges may be laid.
The firearms matters are being dealt with by Customs.
