Police in Wellington say they are growing increasingly concerned for a woman, Irihapeti Matiaha, who has been missing from the Paparangi area since 9am this morning.

Matiaha is 65 and has Alzheimer's. Police say she is likely to be extremely confused and unable to find her way back to her Bracken Road address.

She is described as a female Maori, 1.67 metres tall, medium to large build and with shoulder length, greying black hair.

She was last seen wearing a dark blue/purple windbreaker with Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate on it, a black blazer with a Tui logo, ankle-length denim jeans and black velcro-closing instep shoes.

She also wears a St Johns bracelet with her name and contact details on it.

There has been one unconfirmed sighting of her in South Karori Road around midday.

She has gone missing before and been found in Petone and in Titahi Bay.

Wellington police are asking anyone with information on Matiaha to call them on (04) 381 2000.
