The search for a missing hunter has been stepped down for the night.
Search and rescue teams have been looking for the 42-year-old man in the Waimana area after he failed to return on Sunday night.
Police said one of the man's hunting companions raised the alarm with local residents yesterday.
This afternoon the Rotorua-based Baytrust was tasked by police to assist Whakatane land SAR with the search.
The helicopter was deployed to the Matahi Marae where teams had been based, taking in searches of areas around Otapukawa and Koaunui. It also searched the Koaunui hut.
Rescue teams said the weather conditions "fluctuated from extremely bad to very good" throughout the day.
The search has now been stood down for the night.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
