Two men have been arrested after they allegedly gate-crashed a central Otago party and attacked two men on Sunday, leaving one victim hospitalised and another with a broken nose.

Witnesses told police three men showed up at the Alexandra house party early on Sunday morning.

The men became aggressive when they were asked to leave and assaulted two party-goers, Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Blackie said.

One of the victims was initially placed in an induced coma in Dunedin Hospital, but has since regained consciousness.

The second victim suffered a broken nose and a black eye.

Police arrested two 22-year-old Alexandra men after executing search warrants and interviewing witnesses on Monday morning.

The men will appear in Queenstown District Court on Tuesday charged with assault with intent to injure.

A team of 12 officers was looking for a third suspect and more arrests and charges were likely, Blackie said.

The hospitalised victim would be interviewed soon.

"We are hopeful that over the next day or so we will be able to obtain this person's account of the events," Blackie said.

A scene examination was completed on Monday and investigations were ongoing.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the assaults.
