The New Zealand Food Safety Authority is investigating how black nightshade berries got into some bags of frozen vegetables.
Black nightshade berries can be fatal but it is unlikely one person could eat enough in the frozen vegetables to be at risk.
The plant is different from deadly nightshade which is rare in New Zealand.
The berries are similar in size, shape and colour to peas but have star-like scales and seeds inside.
It's likely the contamination occurred when the peas were harvested.
