Christchurch police are hunting a man they say pointed a pistol at officers.
Police were called to a domestic incident at an address in the inner Christchurch suburb of Edgeware about 11.20pm last night.
They say as officers approached the dwelling a 44-year-old man, who is known to police, presented a pistol at them.
No shots were fired.
The man managed to flee the scene before the Armed Offenders Squad arrived and is yet to be located.
An air pistol was found inside the address and it is believed that the man is no longer armed.
Investigations are continuing to find him.

Fire and ambulance services attended the scene as a precaution during the incident but were not needed.
