A pill which caused a health scare in a Christchurch primary school today has been identified as a herbal remedy with no adverse effects.
Twelve students at Northcote Primary School in Redwood took the pills and were taken to hospital as a precaution.
The pill bottle was not labelled and it was not initially clear what the pills were.
Three ambulances and two response vehicles were called to the school at 10.10am.
Eleven boys and one girl had taken the pills which a pupil had found on their way to school.
Principal Neil Baker said the school children are aged between seven and nine.
He said the school "erred on the side of the caution" by rushing all 12 children to Christchurch Hospital.
