Speed, alcohol and not wearing a seat belt appear to be contributing factors in a crash that has left a woman fighting for her life in Hamilton this morning, police say.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash, at the intersection of Collins and Reagan Roads, near Temple View about 5.30am.
Acting inspector Jeff Penno, Waikato District Road Policing Manager, said the car had failed to negotiate a bend and rolled for about 100 metres before ending up on its roof in a ditch.
The woman suffered critical injuries and was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance along with a male passenger who suffered moderate injuries.
The driver suffered minor injuries and is being interviewed by police.
The female passenger, believed to be in her early twenties, was sitting between the male driver and another male passenger in the front of the vehicle.
"It appears the driver had been drinking and initial indications are that the woman, who was thrown clear of the vehicle as it rolled, was not restrained."
"We would be looking at three of the fatal five factors coming into play, speed, booze and belts and if this woman looses her life it would be a senseless waste of life."
The Serious Crash Unit are investigating the crash.
