Just released figures show the number of people receiving the unemployment benefit has dropped.
They are down 4224 over the last month.
Social Development Minister Paula Bennett says it is the single biggest drop since the recession began.
Bennett says the number of people on all types of benefits has dropped by 10,816 over the same period.
She says it's pleasing to see 5595 young people came off the benefit in just the last month.
Bennett says young people have been among the hardest hit but the recession and initiatives like Job Ops and Community Max have proven vital in keeping young New Zealanders in work.
