Two people have been airlifted to hospital after being seriously injured in a head-on crash in Havelock today.
Police said two cars collided on State Highway 6 between Havelock and Renwick at about 2.45 pm.
A man believed to be in his 50s was flown to Wellington hospital at 3:30pm with life threatening injuries, Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter said.
It said the pair had to be cut from their vehicles, with one taking around 45 minutes to be released by fire services and another man taking over an hour to be removed from his vehicle.
State Highway 6 reopened to a single lane at around 5:30pm.
