ONE News is broadcasting live from Christchurch throughout the day following the magnitude 7.1 earthquake which struck Canterbury early this morning.

Reporters Vicky Wilkinson Baker, Hannah Ockelford, Joy Reid and Catherine Wedd are live from the South Island and will be updating the situation.

Normal programming has been cancelled for the day.

Tonight, an extended One News special, led by Simon Dallow from Christchurch, will bring comprehensive coverage from TVNZ's team of reporters and cameramen across the region from 6pm-7.30pm.

We will be live from the epicentre near Darfield.
