One person has been killed and three injured in a car crash on State Highway 2 in northern Hawke's Bay.
Police and emergency services were called to a two-car head-on crash between Nuhaka and Morere at about 11am today .
The sole occupant of the vehicle travelling south died at the scene. He was 54 year old Stuart Symes of the Nuhaka area.
Two others, one male and one female, were airlifted by Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter to Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital.
One had critical injuries and the other was in a serious condition. The ages of the injured victims are not known.
A fourth person was driven by ambulance to Wairoa Hospital, with moderate injuries.
State Highway 2 has now been reopened.
