Christchurch police have confirmed the man who died in a crash north of Belfast overnight Wednesday is prominent horse racing commentator Darren Tyquin.
Police say the 41-year-old died just before 1am when his car came off the northern motorway out of the city, failed to take a bend and went down a bank.
Tyquin died at the scene and a passenger was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
Police believe speed was involved.
Tyquin replaced legendary Canterbury race caller Reon Murtha calling racing events in the region.
