A police officer has been violently assaulted following a pursuit in West Auckland overnight.
The police pursuit began at 10.40pm last night and lasted for six minutes before a man driving the stolen Subaru station wagon pulled over near Ranui railway station and four occupants tried to run away.
Police say the driver punched the female police officer in the face a number of times and knocked her unconscious as she was trying to arrest him.
The four offenders then ran from the scene through adjacent properties.
The female officer was admitted to North Shore Hospital
overnight and remains in a stable condition.
Three offenders were found by police, including one who is
believed to be the offender for the assault on the
officer.
An 18-year-old male will face charges of aggravated assault in the Waitakere District Court today.
