New Zealand troops will be withdrawn from Afghanistan by 2014, despite requests for on-going support in the war-torn country.
Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman has confirmed that New Zealand's 140 troops would be withdrawn by 2014 and the SAS would be home by the end of this year.
Coleman also said the Government had declined requests for continuing support from SAS troops to assist with training programmes.
Funding for development programmes is also expected to dry up in the next two years.
Coleman recently attended an international security forces meeting in Brussels where the US announced they would withdraw combat troops by the end of 2013.
"We've made it quite clear our guys need support in terms of helicopters and medi vac facilities - all the stuff they need to do the job safely," said Coleman.
"We've been assured there is no change there."
