The New Zealand Herald has announced today that its weekday newspaper will be switching to a tabloid or compact format in September.
The paper said it "will undergo the biggest transformation in its 150-year history" by moving away from its current broadsheet newspaper format.
The Herald said there will be an increase in pages, and editorial space will not decrease as a result of the change.
APN New Zealand Media chief executive Martin Simons said: "We've been testing the concept with our readers and had excellent feedback that demonstrates a clear demand for a weekday compact."
The change will coincide with a redesign of nzherald.co.nz, the paper said.
The Weekend Herald will remain as a broadsheet paper.
The exact date the new-look Monday-Friday paper will be launched is yet to be announced.
