New Zealand business are continuing to get behind Pacific tsunami relief efforts.
Department store chain Farmers said on Tuesday its fundraising programme, in which the company matches each dollar donated by customers, has exceeded $400,000.
In addition to the money raised, six shipping containers of clothing, homewares and bedding were donated to Samoa by Farmers and its suppliers.
Meanwhile, New Zealand Post Group also contributed to the relief efforts, kicking in with $50,000 cash and setting up a bank account for donations.
Acting group chief executive Sam Knowles said $45,000, comprising $35,000 from New Zealand Post Group and $10,000 from Kiwibank, had been deposited into the account, while Express Couriers Limited had already donated $5000 to the Red Cross.
"Many Pacific Islanders living in New Zealand are experiencing personal suffering from this catastrophe and like many Kiwi businesses we have a large number of employees with family and friends directly affected by the tsunami," Knowles said.
The New Zealand and Australian governments pledged on Sunday $12 million between them for the Samoan government for tsunami recovery and reconstruction efforts.
