A man whose body was found in water at Miramar Wharf in Wellington yesterday is believed to have drowned.

Police today identified the man as 57-year-old Ranchhod Patel of Wellington.

"Provisional results of the post mortem suggest that the man may have drowned and do not indicate any foul play," Detective Inspector Paul Basham said.

His death had been referred to the coroner.
