Some new kids on the block have taken out the People's Choice Award at an Australasian craft beer festival which kicked off this weekend in Wellington.
Beervana attracts thousands of punters to come and experience more than 200 of New Zealand and Australia's best brews.
The founders of Parrot Dog Beer, a trio all with the name Matt, decided to enter their first ever commercial brew into the competition.
"[We] couldn't have asked for a better week to launch in, and to pick up that award we are just stoked," said co-founder Matt Warner.
The trio started brewing together in their Aro Valley flat about two years ago, and have grown their backyard brewery into a commercial venture.
Parrot Dog Beer impressed the judges and beat 80 other breweries with their American Pale Ale, which had featured in local Wellington beer bar Hashigo Zaki.
Beervana chief David Cryer called the brew "amazing".
"They brought it here, and straight away they are the people's choice."
The beer impressed the crowds so much it sold out within the day.
