A New Zealand teenager who had been living in Perth for only a few weeks has died in a road accident when he stepped out into traffic.
Vaughan Tewaihapuarangi Gavigan, 19, was flung 15 metres into the air when he was hit by a car on Saturday and died on the roadside, the New Zealand Herald reports.
He had just left a family gathering and the crash was witnessed by horrified relatives.
Perth police said the teenager, who lived in the suburb of Willetton, crossed to the median strip. He stopped but stepped out to continue crossing and was hit by a car driven by a 33-year-old woman.
Police did not expect to charge the woman.
