Police have named the victim of a fatal shooting in Nelson on Saturday evening as 22-year-old local man Troy Minto.
Minto was part of an organised confrontation at Branford Park between two groups of men over a woman.
He was killed from a gunshot wound to the chest, while another was left with head injuries from the clash, in which a softball bat was also used.
Four men were arrested at a Richmond house about 11pm on Saturday over the incident, then a fifth man was arrested on Sunday.
All are being held in custody awaiting appearances in Nelson District Court on Monday afternoon where they will face charges including murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful assembly.
Detective Inspector John Winter, of Nelson police, says further charges are being considered.
Winter says police will seek a remand in custody for all defendants while inquiries into the shooting continue.
Police recovered the firearm that was used, and a softball bat, along with a vehicle the men had used to leave the scene, Winter says.
He says police still want to talk to people who witnessed the incident, or those who were privy to information immediately afterwards.
