Nearly 15,000 people packed Auckland's ASB show grounds today, putting the National Food Show on track to be the country's biggest yet.
Food television with shows such as Masterchef are bringing fine dining to the masses and drawing huge crowds, all eager to taste the next big thing.
"I really think that cooking shows give people the knowledge to begin to express themselves at home. I think people are starting to branch out and be interested in different flavours," said Masterchef NZ winner Brett McGregor.
Food Show organiser Dona White agrees.
"I think it's giving people more confidence and cooking is a hobby - it's a huge hobby - and a huge number of people can do it and it's making people more confident to return to the kitchen," she said.
This year's Food Show is busier than ever, nearly 300 exhibitors are showing-off their wares and around 40,000 people are expected to pass through the show grounds by the end of Sunday.
The show will run until Sunday.
