Murder charge laid over body found in stream

  • Police speaking to man in Whangarei homicide case

A man has been charged with the murder of a 21-year-old woman whose body was found in a stream in the centre of Whangarei early yesterday.

Police investigating the homicide were last night talking to a man, and a 29-year-old man will appear in the Whangarei District Court today.

The woman's body was discovered in the Waiarohia Stream near Tawera Road just after 4.30am yesterday.

Police believe the accused man and the victim knew each other.

They want to hear from anyone who was in the Tawera Road area overnight on Thursday.

Police last night opened part of the cordoned off area to allow access to the Tarewa Shopping Centre from the Walton Street end of Tarewa Road.
