Motorcyclist killed near Blenheim

A 20-year-old motorcylist has died following a crash involving a trail bike and a car near Blenheim.

The accident happened on State Highway 63 in the Wairau Valley township, 37km south west of Blenheim, just before 7pm on Friday.

The motorcyclist, a Wairau Valley resident, sustained serious injuries and died a short time later, said Sergeant Dan Mattison of Blenheim police.

The driver of the car was unhurt.

The dead man's identity will not be released until next of kin were advised, Mattison said.
