The mother of a Ngaruawahia baby girl who was found dead with suspicious head injuries in her cot is pregnant again.
Chelsea Scott has told the Waikato Times that she and her fiance Mathew Ellery are expecting another child.
Ellery, Scott, and her brother, Drew, have all been interviewed by police in relation to the death of six-month-old baby Serenity Joy Scott, with the trio having shared a house in Ngaruawahia with the infant at the time she died.
Scott is reluctant to speak about her pregnancy, telling reporters she wants to keep news under wraps.
"Due to the death of my baby daughter and because my son got taken away from me, I didn't want it getting out there," she told the Times.
Her four-year-old son, Travis, is looked after by a relative.
Scott says she keeps in regular contact with police who are "doing what they can and as much as they can" to find out what happened to her baby.
Child, Youth and Family Midlands regional director Sue Critchley won't comment specifically on Serenity's case due to the homicide inquiry, but says steps are taken to assess any situation where a child's safety, including that of an unborn child, could be at risk.
"If the concerns are of a sufficiently serious nature then children will be removed. Ultimately our priority is that child's welfare."
