There has been mixed reaction to the sentences handed down for the death of a Christchurch taxi driver.

Shannon Boyes-Warren will spend the next 15 and-a-half years in jail for the murder of Abdulrahman Ikhtiari in December 2008.

Randall Brown will be jailed for a minimum of three years, eight months for his manslaughter.

Taxi Federation president Tim Reddish says there is a big disparity between the two sentences and therefore not everyone is going to be happy.

He reckons Boyes-Warren's punishment is about right, but Brown should have given more time.

Reddish hopes the sentences deter others from this type of crime.
