A teenager missing for more than a week may be with his family in the Far North.

Nigel Mansell, 14, was last seen at the Mt Albert train station in suburban Auckland by his CYFS caregiver on December 19.

Police say they had concerns for his wellbeing because of his age.

However, in the last few days police said they had received an anonymous call to say he was with his family in Kaitaia and that was being checked out.
