The anonymous Crimestoppers phoneline was a success in its first month with more than 630 calls, Police Minister Judith Collins said.
Of those, 243 were described by police as actionable, she said.
Seventy nine percent of the calls were from the North Island and 21% from the South Island.
Of the North Island calls, around half came from Auckland.
Half of the calls in the South Island were from Christchurch.
Most crimes reported related to the supply and distribution of drugs. Others included theft, information on wanted people and sexual offences.
Collins said she was delighted that some many people were making use of the phoneline.
"Crimestoppers provides a safe , anonymous channel by which people can speak out and speak the truth."
The information received will help police solve crimes faster and more effectively, she said.
