Michael Parkin is a ONE News reporter based in Wellington.
He joined TVNZ in 2006. He has a degree in Political Science and Mass Communication from Canterbury University and a Post-Grad Diploma in Journalism.
He says he got into journalism to meet interesting people and take a good look around the country. His career highlights to date include being a witness to the return of war medals stolen from the Waiouru Army Museum. Michael was also lucky enough to go to Timor-Leste in 2008 to do stories on the New Zealand Defence Force.
What he most enjoys about his job is never knowing where in the country he will be come 6pm. What he least enjoys are stories on petrol prices.
Michael says his mentor is fellow ONE News reporter, Simon Bradwell - but asks that people don't hold that against him.
