One of the men convicted over the theft of $5 million worth of war medals has had his bid for a shorter sentence rejected.
James Joseph Kapa is serving a 13 year and three month prison sentence for the 2007 burglary at the Waiouru Army Museum.
Today a Supreme Court judgement said the sentence was "fully justified" and rejected his appeal for a shorter sentence.
"Leave is not granted for the proposed appeal against the sentence of imprisonment because no arguable question of principle is raised and the effective sentence and the minimum non-parole period were not manifestly excessive," the judgement said.
While Kapa can not appeal the sentence, the Supreme Court did grant him leave to appeal $100,000 reparation costs handed down to him.
Kapa and Ronald Van Wakeren admitted stealing 96 medals, including nine Victoria Crosses. The jail terms included offences other than the medals burglary.
The court of appeal last year reduced Kapa and and Van Wakeren's sentences by one year each.
Kapa's minimum jail term was also cut from seven years, nine months to six and a half years.
