Mayor watching dam proposal

Clutha's mayor is vowing to get compensation for people affected by a proposed dam on the Clutha River.

The promise comes on the back of Contact Energy's announcement that it is discussing building a dam on the river.

Mayor Juno Hayes says the dam will bring recreational and economic benefits, but he says there will also be negative impacts.

Hayes says he will work with people in the community who will be affected by the dam to make sure they get adequate and fair compensation.
