Tip Top has produced what is believed to be the world's first novelty ice cream wrapped in marshmallow.

A team of 100 people spent more than 2,000 man hours and went through 12,500 litres of pink marshmallow before finally coming up with Memphis Meltdown Rocky Road: A chocolate ice cream rippled with raspberry jelly, dipped in pink marshmallow, and smothered in choc, nuts and coconut - on a stick.

Tip Top tried nine years ago to produce a marshmallow-wrapped ice cream on a stick, but the chewy substance proved to be a formidable production challenge and clogged pipes.

Tip Top's engineering and operations team worked out a way to heat and insulate the pipes, allowing the marshmallow to flow.

Memphis Meltdown Rocky Road is expected available in dairies and service stations around the country from this week and in supermarkets from June 21 2010.
