Northland police have charged a 42-year-old man with manslaughter over the death of Dargaville man Christopher Edwards.

Edwards, 61, died from head injuries at Auckland Hospital on January 13.

Police began an assault investigation after Edwards was admitted to hospital with the unexplained head injury.

They later upgraded it to a homicide investigation following Edwards' death a few days later.

The manslaughter accused was expected to appear in the Dargaville District Court today.
