A man was allegedly stabbed with a broken light bulb from a hotel room lamp in Queenstown.

A 21-year-old man was treated at Lakes District Hospital for wounds to his torso and legs after the alleged incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was released several hours later.

Queenstown police say the weapon used to inflict the injuries was a broken light bulb from a large lamp in the hotel room.

An 18-year-old male has been arrested and charged with Wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was due to appear in the Queenstown District Court this morning.

Police say the two men are from Saudi Arabia and are related.

They currently reside in Christchurch where they both attend an English Language School.
