Police say a man missing on Lake Te Anau is now presumed to have drowned.
The 22-year-old was one of three who went on the lake early on Saturday morning in a dinghy, apparently after a night on the town.
The boat soon became swamped, leaving the trio in the water. Two managed to swim back to shore.
A helicopter has been searching for the third man, who is from Cromwell, for several hours.
Police say a search involving divers is back on again but they are now looking for a body.
Meanwhile, there has been another aftershock from last month's big quake off Fiordland. A 4.7 magnitude tremor was recorded about 70 kilometres west of Te Anau.
It would have been felt by people in western Southland.
