A A former high school executive has been jailed for stealing more than $120,000 and spending it on prostitutes.

David Neil Don, 44, was sentenced to two years jail in the Wellington District Court today.

He admitted eight charges of illegally accessing a computer and laundering money from Wellington's St Patricks college.

Don was in charge of the school's books over a period of four and a half years. During that time the former chartered accountant claimed unauthorised expenses.

Don confessed spending almost $20,000 on prostitutes and at a massage parlour. He also admitted paying a lump sum off his mortgage and buying a king size waterbed. It was all invoiced to the college under the name 'Corporate Wellington'.

He spent an average of $400 a week on prostitutes between 2008 and 2009 and a summary of facts read to the court said Don spent $19,820 on escort services at the Kensington and Quarry Inn.

He was caught out after a school audit.

In a statement the school said: 'It was unfortunate that Don was placed in a position of trust and substantially abused it, misleading the board and management."

The court heard Don made reparations of $15,000 but wanted to pay more.

A reparation order remains on the outstanding amount of around $112,000.

Don offered to sell his only asset the family home but his wife who has joint ownership would not let him.

He asked for home detention instead of jail time but his wife and sons did not want him under their roof.

The judge told Don he would look at his application again once he had a home to go to.

Until then, he will remain behind bars.
