Man in his 80s dies in Christchurch crash

Police have confirmed a man in his 80s died in a two-car crash in the Christchurch suburb of Kainga this afternoon.

He was the driver of a vehicle that collided with another car at the intersection of Main North Road and Marshland Road about 2.30pm.

The passenger in his car, an elderly woman, was transferred to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

The driver of the other car involved received minor injuries.

The deceased is expected to be named tomorrow.

Meanwhile a 21-year-old man was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition after suffering burns to 15% of his body after an oil vat spill at a factory in Rangiora this afternoon.

St John Ambulance says he received burns to his face and shoulders.
