Man in custody after stabbing at party

A 29-year-old man has been remanded in custody after allegedly stabbing another man eight times at a drunken party.

John Nathan Boyd appeared in Dunedin District Court on Monday charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent to injure, common assault and three counts of male assaults female.

Boyd allegedly stabbed a 35-year-old man seven times in the upper torso and once in the face after a fight broke out at a house in Inch Clutha, near Kaitangata, about 100km south of Dunedin shortly before 1am on Saturday.

During the fight, Boyd and his girlfriend were also hurt.

He was remanded in custody until November 17.
