A man in custody following a woman's death in Bay of Plenty is likely to face further charges.
The 38-year-old woman was found dead in her bedroom in Kaingaroa on Friday night.
A 33-year-old man has appeared in Rotorua District Court on an assault charge.
He is being held until his next appearance on Wednesday, when police say it's likely he will face more serious charges.
A post-mortem examination of the woman's body will take place in Auckland.
Rotorua police believe the death is the result of another case of family violence. Area Commander Inspector Bruce Horne says the incident is another tragedy for an area that has already experienced too much sadness.
He says it highlights the need for the community to take a stand against violence because neutrality only helps the offender.
