Man dies in South Auckland crash

A man has died after his car crashed into a power pole in South Auckland.

Police say the driver died at the scene in the early hours of this morning.

The force of the crash caused the car to nearly split in half.

Emergency services had to wait until power was cut to live lines hanging over the vehicle before they could remove the body.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
