One person has died in a single vehicle crash in Tauhei, east of Huntly.
The 45 year old male driver died at the scene.
Police say the vehicle has left the road on a bend, crashed
through a fence and rolled in a paddock.
The driver was a local Waikato man driving on local rural roads that he regularly used.
He was trapped inside the car and had to be cut out by firefighters.
No one else was injured in the incident.
Police say excessive speed is clearly a factor in the crash.
"We remind motorists that rural people die on rural roads, and even though they are local they need to treat roads with respect and slow down," Senior Sergeant Rupert Friend said.
