Christchurch police are appealing for information in relation to a possible hit and run incident this morning.

A man was found with serious head injuries at around 6.30am in the driveway of a home on Yaldhurst Road, in the Christchurch suburb of Russley.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Hill said that the injured man is in a critical condition at Christchurch Hospital.

Investigators are conducting an examination at the man's home, not far from the Yaldhurst Road address where he was found.

The injured man is described as a 44-year old Caucasian, 170 cm, of medium build, with short red hair, a goatee beard and tattoos.

He was wearing red or crimson shorts, a short-sleeved black polo shirt and a grey fleecy jacket.

"At this stage our investigation is focused on trying to establish the man's movements prior to him being found early this morning.

"We would like to hear from anyone who has seen this man, or any unusual activity, in the vicinity of Yaldhurst Road and Racecourse Road, overnight or this morning," said Hill.

Police do not believe the injured man is associated with the address at which he was found.
