A 79 year-old farm worker is in a stable condition in intensive care after being charged by a bull this afternoon.
Ambulance staff and Wairarapa police were called to a property on State Highway 2, 10 kilometres north of Masterton around 12:45pm.
"It appears cattle were being loaded from a set of cattle yards onto a stock truck when a bull charged at the man. The bull repeatedly charged until other people present were able to get the animal out of the yards," Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr said.
He said the bull then charged at other farm workers and a vehicle, and also charged at a police vehicle which went to the scene.
The bull was shot by police.
The victim was airlifted to Wellington Hospital with injuries to his head and body.
