A 28-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder of the policeman shot and wounded in South Auckland early on Tuesday.
Constable Jeremy Snow, 28, was shot several times outside a house in Buckingham Crescent, Papatoetoe.
"A 28-year old male has been charged with the attempted murder of the wounded Constable Jeremy Snow," says Superintendent Mike Bush, District Commander for Counties Manukau Police.
The constable had been part of a police patrol in Papatoetoe just after 4am Tuesday.
He and his partner saw a car with its hazard lights on up a driveway. Wondering if it had been tampered with, they got out to have a look and a volley of gunshots hit the constable on both his legs and elbow.
Armed back up arrived quickly, making a decision to rescue the officer and dragging him to safety.
Bush says staff risked their lives to go in and recover the policeman and surgeons believe if he had not received treatment as soon as he did, he may have died.
The man charged will be appearing in court on Wednesday.
Police say they still have a number of enquiries to complete until the investigation is finalised.
They are urging members of the public who have information about
the incident to call immediately on 09 2950200, or if they wish to
remain anonymous they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
